Stephen Shapiro, Ph.D.

Job title: Adjunct faculty

Stephen Shapiro, Ph.D., serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU, where he teaches Sociology of Sport. He also serves as an assistant professor of Sport Management at Old Dominion University. Shapiro obtained a Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations (2000) and a Master's degree in Management (2002) from the University of Central Florida. He was also an assistant softball coach from 2000-2005 at UCF. He completed his Ph.D. in Sport Management at the University of Northern Colorado in 2008. Shapiro currently teaches in the areas of Sport Finance, Sport Sociology, Sport Media, and Statistics/Research Methods.

Shapiro's research interests include college athletic fundraising, ticket pricing in the primary and secondary markets, and consumer behavior. He has conducted research with a variety of sport organizations including the USOC, USA Taekwondo, Ticket Network, Norfolk Freedom Marathon, the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Avalanche, and athletics departments at the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University, ODU, University of New Mexico, University of Utah, TCU, and UNLV.
