Founded on a set of five core values, the CSL is dedicated to creating the best possible student experience — and teaching our students to become leaders.
Our mission
The Center for Sport Leadership at VCU is committed to the education and preparation of future professionals in the public and private sectors of the sport industry. Through vision, teamwork, creativity, enthusiasm and innovation, our students will utilize theory, practical application and collaboration to learn the processes necessary to become the next generation of leaders in coaching and administration of sport.
Our history
Established in 1999, the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU was created to be an innovative, practical learning environment that prepares students for a successful career in the sport industry.
Modeled after VCU's highly successful Brandcenter, home to our nationally ranked graduate advertising program, the CSL launched a nontraditional sport leadership graduate program that focuses on experiential learning through hands-on experiences.
The CSL places high value on practical experience and networking opportunities. With more than 900 graduates in the last decade, the Center for Sport Leadership has placed students in every area of the industry, including professional, intercollegiate, Olympic, nonprofit and grassroots organizations. These successful alumni provide a network to connect current students with industry leaders.
