CSL networking
CSL students begin creating ties to the broader sport industry from the moment they enroll. Each student cohort forms its own initial networking group, throughout the program students build relationships that drive both personal and professional growth. We host numerous networking functions and events each year to connect all of our core constituents and foster meaningful partnerships with friends old and new.
Annual networking events
Networking workshop
Just a couple weeks after arriving on campus, our students participate in a networking workshop. This practical but impactful session led by leading experts demonstrates the skills necessary to be an effective networker. Many students acknowledge they had no idea how to act or what to say at networking events, but this workshop helps build confidence and self-esteem for our students.
“Speed dating” with CSL alumni advisory board
Just days after completing the networking workshop, our students get the opportunity to put their skills to the test with our CSL Alumni Advisory Board, who visits campus each fall.
Using a “speed dating” format, students have 15 minutes to engage with a board member to ask questions about their professional journey and industry insight.
After four rounds, there is a final open session where students can speak to any of the alumni board members present. This fun and informal exercise allows our students to establish relationships with our alumni and reminds our graduates of where their journey began.
RVA sports executive social
The CSL hosts this annual gathering of the Richmond sports community, inviting representatives from local sports organizations to connect and engage. Last year, more than 125 sports professionals representing 30 sports organizations attended. CSL graduate students and local alumni are invited, too, offering another opportunity to build mutually beneficial relationships.
Alumni reception at NACDA
The majority of our alumni work in college athletics. Each summer, we host a reception at NACDA, the annual convention for college athletics administrators. This has become a signature event for alumni that work in college athletics to meet or reconnect. Several of the CSL’s college athletic partners also attend, making this reception a unique and valuable event for our stakeholders.
