What happens when golf meets barnyard animals? You get The Putting Zoo. Under sunny skies at The First Tee of Greater Richmond’s downtown facility, about 50 children from Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond and YMCA of Greater Richmond spent one day of Spring Break learning about the game of golf.
The First Tee is based on nine Core Values. Groups of kids rotated through 9 stations, each centered around one of the core values. These stations incorporated basic golf skills such as learning how to hold the club, practicing chipping and putting, and driving birdie balls at a large blow up “Golfopotamus.”
The event also featured some other sports such as volleyball, foot golf, and ultimate Frisbee. A favorite station for both the kids and adults was the miniature petting zoo. Participants and volunteers were able to pet guinea pigs, rabbits, sheep, goats, and even a pony!
“The Putting Zoo was the most organized we have seen the event run. Our kids had so much fun the entire morning, and we love that they were able to interact with other kids in the local Richmond Community.”
A donation of $575 will be given back to The First Tee so that the organization can continue to impact the lives of youth participants through educational programs and life skills.
