Dr. Brendan Dwyer Wins Prestigious Sutton Award

National Honor Recognizes Excellence Among Sports Marketing Educators

Brendan Dwyer, Ph.D. is the recipient of the 2022 Sutton Award given by the Sports Marketing Association. 

This annual honor is awarded to an academician who makes exceptional contributions through one or more of the following areas: excellence in research (strong publishing record); excellence in teaching (pedagogical innovations, experiential learning, teaching methods, etc. excellence in connecting students with industry professionals; excellence in service to SMA and other professional organizations. The award is named after Dr. Bill Sutton, one of the founding father of sports management in higher education. 

"We are so proud Brendan has been recognized for his work. He exemplifies the mission of SMA through his teaching and research, but mostly through his dedication to our graduate students," said Carrie LeCrom, Ph.D., executive director of the VCU Center for Sport Leadership.

Dwyer will receive the award at the SMA Annual Conference in Las Vegas on October 21.
